In May of 2010, we set off as a family for Germany to visit my grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins. We have flown with British Airways the past few times we have gone for a visit. They typically have some of the best prices and really good service. Who could have known when we booked 3 months earlier that we would be traveling during 1) a British Airways strike and 2) a volcanic eruption in Iceland that was spewing dense smoke into the air, complicating all flights across the Atlantic. The first leg of our trip took us from Phoenix to London. We got London tired (it was an 11 hour flight) and after spending many hours in the airport, realized that we would be stuck there for almost 2 days. So, what can you do, but take in the sights? I was pretty excited! I had never been before, so we lived it up in that royal city for a full day.

The boys still talk about the day they got to see a real "castle" and real "knights", and if we ever pass a building with a big clock on it, they are convinced that it must be Big Ben. It was a fun day, complete with a dinner of fish and chips in the hotel restaurant for Tim and me. I absolutely want to go back some day... but that will take some saving. London is great, but certainly not inexpensive.
